Basic skincare routine: sleep before serums, then these in order

Light and sleep do the heavy work. Then five steps, in the order you use them, and one supplement that sits last.

Sleep and light come first; a basic skincare routine comes second. The GlowMaxx Routine puts three habits ahead of any bottle: a fixed wake time, 10 minutes of outdoor morning light, and 7.5–8 hours in bed. In a study of 60 women, good sleepers showed 30% greater skin-barrier recovery than poor sleepers.

Once those run, this is the whole shelf. The core is cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen; vitamin C and glycolic acid are optional. It replaces the 12-step shelf. It will never hold skin-lightening creams.

Is collagen worth adding?

Questions people ask

What is the correct order for a basic skincare routine?

Morning: cleanse, vitamin C, moisturise, then sunscreen last. Night: cleanse, glycolic acid one or two nights a week, moisturise. Fixed wake time, morning light and full nights still do more than any step.

How much sunscreen should I put on my face?

About two finger-lengths for face and neck: squeeze a strip along your index and middle fingers. That approximates the 2 mg/cm² dose at which SPF is measured.

Do collagen supplements work for skin?

The evidence is weak. A 2025 meta-analysis of 23 randomised trials found benefits only in lower-quality or industry-funded trials. Protein, sleep and sunscreen come first.
